The drumline
A line that rehearses by season
The Flam line is for percussion students aged twelve and up, from school bands and from no band at all. It rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in marching season, indoors in winter and in two short sectionals a week in summer. Aiman runs it, and Grover leads the front ensemble.

The sections
What the line plays
Students pick a section with their teacher, and many try two.
Snare
The backbone of the line: tight, even strokes at every volume, from a whisper to a roll.
Tenors
A set of drums played with sticks, with the line's runs and fills moving around the set.
Bass drums
A row of drums of different sizes, each player playing one note of a shared part.
Front ensemble
Marimba, vibraphone, steel pan and more, played in front of the line and heard above it.
How it fits
Alongside your school band
- 01
Step 1: Your band comes first
Friday-night games and your band director's schedule come before us. Tell us the dates and we plan around them.
- 02
Step 2: We rehearse what you play
Bring your school's part. We use sectionals to polish it, so you arrive at your band rehearsal ready.
- 03
Step 3: The line plays out together
At the fall and winter showcases the line plays its own show, with students from every school side by side.
Join the line
Come for a trial lesson first. A teacher will hear you play a pad and place you in a section.
